Tea Time
There is nothing more quintessentially British than going out for an afternoon tea, but when you’re in the countries capital where is the best place to go that won’t cost you as much as an average two bed apartment? There is a distinct difference between the cheap and cheerful and quality mid range cafes in London, so picking the right one can be hard. This article is aiming to give you some tips on the above.

The Botanist in Sloane Square is a definite must; tea here consists of finger sandwiches with a range of fillings, from the typical cheese and pickle to the more exotic, depending on personal taste. Scones served with Devonshire clotted cream and strawberry jam, crumpets and waffles are also available to help re-fuel the weary shoppers and sightseers.
The National Dining Rooms in Charing Cross is a fabulous place to rest your aching feet, while indulging in afternoon tea. Scones, Peyton & Byrne jams accompany lashings of clotted cream with various other cakes and pastries that are simply divine. Some of the most popular items include the millionaire’s shortbread and the heavenly raspberry teacakes.
The Wolseley in Piccadilly has taken inspiration from the cafes from the continent with its marble floors and Corinthian pillars. Finger sandwiches, scones and a variety of pastries are on offer, the specially blended tea can also be purchased, so the experience and taste can be taken home with you. The tea room is more casual than the main dining room, but do not let this put you off, as the food and service is top notch.
As the saying goes when in Rome, or this case London, do as the Londoner’s do: stop, relax and enjoy a freshly brewed pot of tea and some glorious scones. One thing to note however: these are not the sort of establishments where one would bring out their portable gaming console and insert an R4 card in order to listen to music or play a game of any type.
